Printables are digital craft projects, designed to be printed on a home computer, cut out and assembled. They range from simple greetings card fronts, toppers and tags to intricate 3d art.
They've been available for many years, so what makes Printables so popular? Here are some things I love about Printables.

1. Handiness: If you have a selection of printable card fronts, gift tag, box templates on file, you will always have something for last minute Birthday cards, and gift wrapping accessories. Or if you have created goody bags for a kids party, only to find you need some more, you can easily print the extra.
2. Economical to use: Even taking into consideration the price of paper/card and your printer ink Printables aren't all that expensive to create. Lavish handmade card projects may require a number of separate sheets but the end result will still be much cheaper than buying a similar card from a store.
And once purchased and downloaded to your computer (or purchased on CD) the files are available for you to use time and time again.
3. Choice: If you google the net, you will find a vast array of printable items (both to purchase and for free) The eclectic range of designs and graphical styles mean there is something for everyone. You are sure to find exactly what you are looking for or at least pretty close.
4. No special equipment necessary: Okay, it does help if you have some basic crafting tools, but you can still create a passable project using things that most people have around the house.
Scissors, wet glue, glue stick, ruler.
The handle of a butter knife to replace a bone folder, the rounded end of a knitting needle to score along a fold line. A mouse pad to work on.

There are lots of tools on the market that save time and do get a professional result. Some aren't too expensive.
You can purchase paper cutters, paper tweezers, corner chompers and edge punches to add a decorative touch to cards and tags. Scoring mats, decoupage scissors, and a whole range of distressing inks, glitter stick, varnishes, glimmers mists etc. There are also cutting machines available and they are beyond my realms of knowledge but oh so on my 'wish list'!
5. Easy to use: Once printed, Printables are ready to cut out and assemble. That is not to say there aren't any complex and intricate projects, they just need a bit of patience and practice to create.
6. Personalise: You can add your own personal touches to your project in your image software, even before you print it, such as adding text, changing colours, resizing, etc.
You can print extra copies to add some decoupage details, and decorate with embellishments such as ribbons, jewels, buttons, glitter, rub-ons, etc.
You can use your digital scrapbooking kits contents to create Printables of your own.

(Canon Creative Park website has some amazing 3 dimensional creations from talented paper artists.)

Yes I'm a big printables fan!! lol And since Christmas is looming (I'm Scottish, we bypass the Thanksgiving Holiday!), I thought I would hold a Printables Workshop 'of sorts'.
There are lots of excellent tutorials out there, so here are a couple to get you started :)
